Volvo launches the new wheel excavators EWR150F Y EWR170F
Volvo continues its biggest year of product launches in a long time by updating the EW150 and EW170 wheeled excavators to the new F series. In this way, they are the first wheeled excavators to receive the upgrade to the latest generation with all its new improvements.
Changes in the new generation F of Volvo wheeled excavators
As it already happened at the end of last year with the crawler excavators, the wheeled machines are being updated in 2025 to introduce several improvements in productivity, safety, and comfort. Let’s review all their advantages and the changes to keep in mind.
New redesigned cabin
The improvements to the cab of the new F series have been incorporated into these two new excavators mainly in four areas:
-
A new premium seat is now standard, different from those in the crawler excavators. This seat features a two-point seatbelt, improved air suspension, and a heating option.
-
All new machines will come standard with the 12.8″ Co-pilot 2.0 tablet, replacing the previous standard LCD display. This gives the operator easier and smoother access to essential excavator controls (such as climate control, cameras, and excavation assistance programs like Dig Assist).
-
The joysticks on the new excavators have also been updated, eliminating the four-button and proportional joysticks in favor of the much more precise and easier-to-control L8S joysticks.
-
Finally, a start-stop button has been added, allowing the machine to be started without a key
-
Mayor capacidad de elevación frontal: +28% en la EWR150F y +20% en la EWR170F.
- Greater stabilized side lifting capacity: +10% on the EWR150F and +8% on the EWR170F.
Improved productivity and eficiency
The most notable improvements in the new wheeled excavators are those that impact productivity and efficiency, areas where Volvo has invested the most time and effort:
-
Front turning radius reduced by 0.5 m.
-
New electro-hydraulic MCV.
-
Hose-free cab thanks to the new joysticks and hydraulic pedals.
-
Increased power in the EWR150F, going from 143 horsepower in the E series to 156 horsepower in the F series.
-
Swing torque increased by 10% in both machines (38 kNm for the EWR150F and 42 kNm for the EWR170F).
-
No longer necessary to turn off the main disconnect switch—the machine automatically enters standby mode when shut down.
Improved operator safety
Another important focus for Volvo in this F series is safety, which is clearly reflected in the changes made by the brand:
-
The cab’s visibility has been increased, now offering the widest field of view on the market.
-
The easy side access with three points of contact is maintained to facilitate entry and exit from the cab.
-
The machine’s lighting system has been completely redesigned, going from 4 basic halogen lights in the E series to 13 DELUXE LED lights in the F series (remotely controlled and distributed throughout the machine).
New options available for the EWR150F Y EWR170F
Finally, as an official Volvo dealer, we offer new optional features that can be installed upon request to improve different aspects of the wheeled excavators:
-
Retractable easy-access stairs, which can be activated from ground level and from the cab, making it much easier to access the excavator.
-
An extra 135-liter fuel tank, in addition to the standard 220-liter tank, to significantly increase working hours.
-
Four-wheel steering for better traction, which improves maneuvering precision and stability on difficult terrain, including turning in tight spaces.
In conclusion, the new EWR150F and EWR170F wheeled excavators feature several important improvements in various essential aspects of the job, making them an ideal choice for excavation work in urban areas and trench digging.
